THE iQFOIL IN DETAIL

THE FOIL

STARBOARD IQFOIL FOIL SET
Back to back 2017/2018 World Champion and Vice World Champion, making it the most successful racing foil in windsurfing to date: Starboard’s Race foil started the iQFoil project and it is the foil that made foiling in the Olympics a possibility. Its innovative racing geometry was the breakthrough that enabled foiling to cover Windsurfing Olympics’ wind range and performance requirements. Compared to the original Race foil, the iQFoil foil set has been upgraded with a stiffer UHM Carbon mast and a 900 front wing for extra light-wind performance. It comes with two new Plus fuselages, the 115cm Plus for upwind downwind racing and the 95cm Plus for higher winds and racing formats with more reaching. The Plus fuselages have an adjustable tail wing angle that allows the rider to increase control in high winds or increase power in light winds.

Components: 900 front wing | 255 tail wing with -2 degree | 115 Plus fuselage | 95 Plus fuselage | 95cm iQFoil mast

iQFOiL 85

COMPETITION

Dimensions: 215x85cm. 153 liters
The new 85cm wide iQFoil is the one-design board for Junior and Youth. Smaller and more controllable for younger sailors, this new size shares the same racing genes as the 95. Additional footstrap positions and reduced rail cutaway sizes improve performance in fin mode. Starting as a Junior with the Junior foil set and the 6.0 rig, upgrading to Youth only requires a larger sail and a new foil front wing. It’s the most streamlined path from foil racing at a young age to the pinnacle of sports.

Available in Starlite Carbon construction

0.6mm Australian pine wood sandwich wrapped with Military grade-glass and a full carbon bottom. A high quality value package with excellent finish. The Starlite Carbon construction feels especially crisp and has extra high impact resistance.

CUT AWAYS

Extra-large cutaways, more than double the size of the regular Formula’s, reduces the wetted area and improves take-off onto the foil.

SHARP RAILS AND BEVELED NOSE

The sharp rails in the tail allows the boards to get planing and reach take off speed more easily. Additionally, the board will bounce off the water if you clip the water surface instead of sticking and throwing you into a catapult.

The beveled nose improves aerodynamics and ultimately provides more control at high speeds.

RECESSED MAST TRACK

Deck concave and recessed mast track for a more vertical sailing position while closing the gap between the sail and the deck of the board.

HEEL EXTENDER

Heel Extender are available for non Olympic races as an aftermarket accessory. They increase the effective width of the board in the tail, increase upwind/downwind angles in more control.

THE FIN

iQFoil 95 Recommended fin: Drake iQFoil 68 fin 68cm (Men) Drake iQFoil 66 fin 66cm (Women)

iQFoil 85 Recommended fin: Drake Race 56cm (Youth and Junior)

*Fins are included only in the iQFoil packages.

FOOT STRAPS

The iQFoil range comes with a the latest generation of Drake Ultralight straps. These straps are ideal for foiling when foot pressure is lighter than regular windsurfing.

FOIL BOX

The Foil Box is larger and stronger than a normal fin box to distribute loads over a larger area. It is built using solid sheets of 20 mm thick high-density PVC with 8 mm thick carbon fibre walls, and has a flat, parallel bottom which allows the box to take both types of foil bases: tapered ‘Tuttle-style’ base and rectangular foil bases.

In either case, it is strongly recommended for the front of the foil’s base to reach the bottom of the box. This ensures that the vertical lifting load from the foil will be carried by both the front wall of the box and the bottom wall of the box.

Wings, fuselages and masts can be interchanged or upgraded to match rider style, budget, foil racing conditions and sport discipline.

The unique shape and the four fins generate maximum drive and acceleration, bringing an awesome production of speed, flow and power to your sailing in all wave & wind combinations.
Stable and extremely responsive, the Quads are most rewarding when driven off the rails for powerful yet smooth turns. The four-fin grip gives a very connected sensation to the wave yet they still have the ability to lose the tail when extended through the lip for a rotational move.

For 2015, subtle changes producing significant differences in performances have been introduced on three models in the range.

The Quad 79 and 84 have their Vee brought forward of the fins. This produces more precise rail-to-rail control in the bottom turn allowing for quicker trajectory changes as well as facilitating cutbacks as the board rolls off the Vee to set the forward rail.

More outline curve was added between the footstraps of the Quad 74 for quicker and tighter turns but also allowing the board to project more vertically up the face of the wave.
